Research Project: Inspection of Fiber Ropes

21. February 2023 | ROTEC GmbH

Last year, we launched a research project in collaboration with the German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research (DITF) in Denkendorf. The goal is to develop a method for non-destructive testing of fiber ropes to determine their discard maturity.

The background is that fiber ropes, while offering technical and economic advantages over steel ropes in many applications, currently lack a reliable method for determining their discard maturity. As a result, fiber ropes can still only be used to a limited extent in safety-critical applications.

Last week, the first sensor prototype was completed. We will soon be able to start the initial tests on the rope.
