Zipline Stoderzinken: New ROPESYS R28 cable inspection device for cable testing in the Alps.
The Stoderzinken Zipline is one of the most spectacular recreational attractions in the Styrian Alps. Anyone soaring over the Styrian Alps on a steel cable at speeds of up to 115 km/h enjoys, above all, a pure adrenaline rush.
To ensure this exceptional leisure experience remains consistently carefree, the experienced operations team takes diligent care of technical maintenance.
With a total length of 2.5 kilometers across two sections, the Stoderzinken Zipline in Gröbming, Styria, is considered Europe’s largest zipline.
Rope inspection at the Stoderzinken zipline
To reliably inspect the system’s total of eight track ropes, those responsible on site recently acquired a new rope testing device.
Four parallel cables run along each of the two sections and must be inspected regularly.
Consequently, a brand-new ROPESYS R28 rope testing device has been added to the equipment at Stoderzinken, effective immediately. The device enables the magnetic-inductive inspection of wire ropes directly on the installation.
This allows wire breaks and other structural changes in the rope to be detected precisely and in a verifiable manner.
For us, personal training is part of the package.
Although our ROPESYS systems are simple and intuitive to operate, we generally include personal instruction as part of the process. After all, rope inspection is about more than just the technology.
It is equally important that users can operate the device safely and correctly evaluate the measurement data obtained.
For this reason, our expert Dr. Martin Wehr traveled to Austria to instruct the operating personnel on the handling of the new R28 directly at the facility.
Hands-on instruction directly on the steel cable
The joint session focused primarily on practical application. Dr. Martin Wehr explained the correct installation of the compact testing device directly onto the cable to the employees, step by step.
Furthermore, the team practiced using the R28 rope testing device and systematically analyzing the recorded measurement data.
This allowed the employees to get to know the new testing device directly under the conditions in which they will be using it in the future.
Questions can be clarified directly at the system—exactly where it matters most later on.
