Practical knowledge for design, operation, and testing.
The “Wire Ropes” seminar will once again take place at the Haus der Technik in Essen on September 22 and 23, 2026. Sven Winter (Dipl.-Ing.), Managing Director of ROTEC GmbH, will be participating. Together with Dr.-Ing. Frank Jauch of KranSeil.Engineering (an engineering consultancy specializing in rope application technology based in Garabonc, Hungary), he will share practical knowledge regarding wire ropes and their use in crane systems over the course of the two-day seminar.
Who would find the seminar interesting?
The seminar is aimed specifically at design engineers, manufacturers, and operators of crane systems. It is also intended for maintenance personnel, experts, inspectors, and technical and safety specialists who work with wire ropes.
Anyone involved in designing cable drive systems, selecting suitable wire ropes, installing them, or monitoring them during operation must take numerous technical factors into account. This is precisely where the seminar comes in, providing participants with practical fundamentals and concrete guidance for their day-to-day work.
From wire rope assembly to modern rope construction
The program begins with the fundamentals of wire rope technology. In addition to the basics of wire ropes, the course covers their manufacture and construction, as well as modern rope designs and both standard and special-purpose ropes.
This makes it clear that the choice of wire rope always depends on the specific application. Load, construction, and operating conditions play a role, as does the correct design of the rope drive system.
Another component is the computer-aided design of wire ropes, which is clearly illustrated through a demonstration.
Focus on inspection, installation, and maintenance
The regular inspection of the wire ropes used is particularly important for the safe operation of crane systems. Therefore, testing and inspection play a key role in the seminar.
Participants focus on the assessment of wire ropes and the detection of damage. Proper handling, installation, and maintenance are also covered.
The product range also includes rope end connections, wire rope assembly, and the design of the rope drum.
Standards and design compliant with wire rope requirements
The seminar on wire rope technology in crane construction also covers the technical design of rope drives. Topics addressed include the requirements set out in DIN 15020 and ISO 4308.
In addition, the agenda includes the new CEN standard, rotation-resistant wire ropes, and the design of cranes and systems to suit wire rope requirements.
Another key focus is on measures to extend rope service life. After all, a suitable rope design and proper handling can play a decisive role in increasing a wire rope’s lifespan and avoiding unplanned downtime.
ROTEC Managing Director Sven Winter as a speaker
Dipl.-Ing. Sven Winter brings extensive experience from both research and practice to the seminar. He worked as an engineer at the University of Stuttgart from 1997 to 2017. During the last eight years of his tenure there, he headed the Rope Technology Department at the Institute of Materials Handling and Logistics.
Sven Winter has been Managing Director of ROTEC GmbH since 2017, working in the field of rope applications and rope testing. In addition, he is active in international professional associations such as OIPEEC, OITAF, and VDS Seilbahnen, as well as in CEN and ISO standardization committees.
Together with Dr.-Ing. Frank Jauch, he therefore combines scientific fundamentals with many years of practical experience in rope technology during the seminar.
Late registration still possible
The seminar will take place in Essen on September 22 and 23, 2026. Anyone wishing to participate on short notice can obtain information about the program and available places directly from the Haus der Technik.
