Rope testing in Cape Town – spectacular ROPESYS deployment on Table Mountain.

Our colleague Marcus Liebscher traveled to South Africa in June 2025 to conduct a cable test on the famous Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.

The cable car takes hundreds of visitors to Table Mountain every day and is one of Cape Town’s most famous attractions and one of the most famous cable cars in the world.

This is exactly where our ROPESYS rope testing device came into play.

Professional rope testing in an exceptional environment

A cable inspection on Table Mountain requires not only the utmost precision, but also perfect on-site collaboration. All inspection steps were planned in detail in advance to ensure everything runs smoothly during the operation.

Thanks to close coordination with the operator, our colleague Marcus Liebscher was able to quickly deploy the ROPESYS system and carry out the measurements efficiently – in keeping with the spirit of a structured and professional testing process.

Testing under special conditions

On site, Marcus inspected both the upper haul rope and the lower haul rope of the cable car.

Particularly challenging: The route is extremely steep and has no supports between the valley and mountain stations.

It is precisely these conditions that demonstrate how flexible and reliable our compact ROPESYS testing device can be used worldwide – even in exceptional cable car technology.

Technology meets nature: An unforgettable moment

In addition to the successful rope test, it was above all the surroundings that remained in the memory.

Marcus experienced the sunset from the summit of Table Mountain – with a breathtaking view over the bay, the city and the Atlantic.

The combination of fascinating landscapes, sophisticated technology and international cooperation made this mission a very special experience.

ROTEC – we make ropes safe.
