Rope testing in open-cast mining – reliable even under extreme conditions.
The demands of open-cast mining are enormous. Huge machines, heavy loads, and adverse environmental conditions place the highest demands on materials and personnel.
Especially where loads and wear reach extreme levels, reliable and non-destructive rope testing becomes indispensable.
ROPESYS rope testing devices for every challenge
Our ROPESYS rope testing devices are used not only in cable cars, but also wherever steel ropes must ensure the highest level of safety. The energy sector, in particular, relies on our technology. Precision, reliability, and durability are essential here, as errors can have fatal consequences.
The areas of application are diverse and include, for example:
-
Crane systems in power plants
-
Traction ropes of pressure pipe carriages in pumped storage power plants
-
Hoist ropes in shaft hoisting systems
-
Crane ropes on offshore vessels for the construction of wind farms
-
Crane ropes of mobile cranes during the construction of wind turbines
-
Hoist ropes on huge open-cast mining excavators
Testing the world’s largest excavator ropes
We also test the hoist ropes on the world’s largest excavators. For example, the Hambach opencast mine uses the 293 excavator, which, with its 14,200-ton weight and 96-meter height, moves up to 240,000 m³ of material daily.
The two 75mm diameter hoist ropes lift the gigantic bucket wheel boom. These ropes are subject to extreme forces and must be regularly inspected to ensure safety.
Powerful technology for extreme conditions
Dirty environments and heavily lubricated ropes are no problem for our compact R83 rope testing device. With a high-resolution sensor head and 50 channels, the rope is tested precisely and reliably.
Data transmission is wireless, saving time, simplifying on-site work, and ensuring maximum accuracy even under challenging conditions.
Responsibility for people, technology and the environment
Opencast mines are impressive engineering feats and still indispensable sources of energy. At the same time, they require the utmost responsibility and care. Even after the lignite phase-out, these giants will be needed on site to reclaim the opencast mine and create a local recreation area.
With our rope testing devices, we help ensure that work is carried out safely even in complex and demanding environments – for people, technology, and the environment.
ROTEC – we make ropes safe.
