Precise rope testing in Belgium: ROTEC’s R140 rope testing device in use
On October 28 and 29, 2024, our employee Sebastian Traub was on the road in Belgium to inspect the stay cables of the pedestrian bridge in Obourg in cooperation with our partner Vinçotte.
ROTEC’s R140 rope testing device, which was specially developed for testing large ropes and cables and has proven itself time and again in demanding projects, was used for this purpose. The stay cables of the bridge consist of parallel strand bundles – a construction that poses particular challenges for conventional testing technology.
Thanks to the innovative sensor technology of the R140 rope tester, new insights were gained during the inspection that would not have been detectable with conventional coils. This new technology makes it possible to precisely detect even the smallest defects or signs of damage within the strand bundles. Precise and reliable inspection is crucial for stay cables in particular, which are exposed to high loads on a daily basis, in order to ensure the long-term safety and stability of the structure.
The successful cooperation with Vinçotte – a member of the KIWA Group in the inspection of bridge cables underlines the importance of modern technologies and experienced specialists for the maintenance and safety of infrastructure projects.
With the R140 rope tester, ROTEC relies on innovative solutions and precise sensor technology that enables reliable and detailed analyses.
In this way, ROTEC makes an important contribution to the sustainable maintenance and safeguarding of structures in order to ensure a stable and safe infrastructure in the future.
