The annual inspection of Hong Kong’s Peak Tram last week was an extraordinary mission for ROTEC in the heart of the vibrant metropolis. The world-famous funicular, which has been transporting passengers to Victoria Peak since 1888, is one of the city’s landmarks. It’s no wonder, then, that safety is a top priority.
Testing with state-of-the-art technology and approval in Hong Kong
Our engineers, led by Managing Director Sven Winter, conducted the annual safety inspection of the Peak Tram, including the associated magnetic cable inspection. This inspection is required every year to ensure the highest safety standards.
Thanks to the official approval by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong government, ROTEC was able to implement the examinations smoothly.
Special challenges on site
The unique design of the historic facility and the steep incline of the track presented us with challenges. The tight space and stringent safety requirements made the work challenging. Nevertheless, our specialists completed the inspection professionally and quickly. The tropical heat and heavy urban traffic made it difficult to get the equipment to the site, but once we arrived, everything went smoothly.
