Rope testing in Vietnam – on the road between world records and tropical nights.

Our colleague Lars, an expert at ROTEC, spent three weeks traveling in Southeast Asia. During this time, he inspected nearly 200km of rope – in tropical heat, often at night, and always with breathtaking views. The Sun Group, our Vietnamese partner, operates cable cars at six world-famous locations – and they all have one thing in common: spectacular world records.

Start in the north – highest altitude differences

The journey begins in northern Vietnam, at 3,143 meters high Fansipan, the “Roof of Indochina.” Three cable cars await the ROTEC team here – including a tricable gondola with the world’s greatest vertical drop: 1,410 meters non-stop. At 6,292 meters, it also previously held the record as the world’s longest tricable gondola.

Largest gondola, tallest tower

Next stop: Ha Long Bay – a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 1,969 limestone islands. There, ROTEC tested the Queen Cable Car, with the world’s largest cabin (230 passengers!) and formerly the highest tower (188.88 meters). Today, surpassed by the neighboring Cat Ba Cable Car – a new record tower: 214.8 meters.

60km of rope and French charm

In central Vietnam, the Bana Hills resort awaited, a mix of French village and amusement park at 1,487 meters. It boasts nine cable cars – one of which, at 5,801 meters, is the longest non-stop monocable car in the world. ROTEC tested a total of approximately 60 km of cable.

Largest station and longest cable car

At Ba Den Mountain in South Vietnam, ROTEC inspected four cable cars – including the world’s largest cable car station (over 10,000 m²). Finally, the project moved on to the Hon Thom cable car on Phu Quoc – at 7,899.9 m, the world’s longest non-stop tri-cable car.

Vietnam at night – full of technology and emotion

Whether it’s the highest tower or the largest gondola, ROTEC ensures the safety of all of the Sun Group’s world-record-setting systems. The tests usually take place at night – in tropical air, under clear starry skies, and in close collaboration with local teams. A unique experience – both technically and personally.

Thank you, Vietnam!

Rope testing in Vietnam: We thank the Sun Group for their trust and long-standing cooperation. For years, we have been supporting the rapid development of cable car infrastructure in Vietnam with our expertise and technology – reliably and in use worldwide.

ROTEC – we make ropes safe.
