SWR documentary: Cable car checker – ROTEC in action.

The SWR documentary: Seilbahnchecker (Cable Car Checker) shows our ROTEC team performing an exciting cable car inspection. The 30-minute documentary follows our experts as they inspect the historic Predigtstuhl cable car in Bad Reichenhall and the modern 3S cable car in Koblenz.

The cable car in Bad Reichenhall has been in operation since 1928, but its safety requires regular inspections. ROTEC takes care of this – using both state-of-the-art technology and years of experience.

Rope testing at the Predigtstuhlbahn

As one of three authorized expert bodies in Bavaria, ROTEC has been conducting safety inspections of the Predigtstuhlbahn for years. This includes not only examining the suspension cable, but also testing the entire system: mechanics, electrical engineering, control systems, fire protection, structural analysis, etc.

After all, the operating license depends on a perfect condition. Passengers must be able to trust the railway. Therefore, a detailed inspection is essential.

State-of-the-art technology for maximum safety

Visual inspection alone is not sufficient. Therefore, ROTEC uses magnetic induction rope testing (MRT testing). This method also allows for the detection of damage inside the rope. The rope is magnetized across its entire cross-section, right down to the core wire.

If the rope is damaged, the magnetic field is disturbed and the resulting stray fields can be measured: live, wirelessly and in 3D.

Real-time data and precision measurement

During the measurement, the ROPESYS rope testing device records the rope’s magnetic field. The more consistent the result, the better the rope’s condition. Initial data is immediately transferred to our team’s laptop. The complete analysis is performed using AI in the ROPESYS Cloud.

This is how we ensure that the ropes meet the highest safety standards.

ROTEC in use worldwide

ROTEC operates internationally. In addition to numerous projects in Germany, we also use our technology worldwide. In Koblenz, we regularly inspect one of Germany’s most frequently used cable cars. But our expertise extends far beyond national borders.

In La Paz, Bolivia, for example, our devices are used to monitor the city’s cable cars. With state-of-the-art technology and real-time data transmission, we ensure maximum security – anywhere in the world. Security knows no boundaries.

The SWR documentary: Seilbahnchecker provides fascinating insights into our work. Anyone interested in learning more about cable car safety inspections shouldn’t miss the video.
