Wire Ropes: Practical Seminar
Wire ropes play a crucial role in many technical areas. Therefore, it is important to acquire the necessary knowledge. March 19 and 20, 2025 The practical seminar “Wire ropes – design, selection and monitoring” will take place in the Haus der Technik in Essen. This seminar is aimed at experts from crane and conveyor technology.

Wire ropes are highly stressed components. They must therefore be carefully selected, correctly installed and regularly checked. Mistakes can have fatal consequences. This seminar therefore provides both theoretical basics and practical applications.
Expert knowledge from leading speakers Sven Winter, Managing Director of ROTEC GmbH, is one of the speakers. In addition, Dr.-Ing. Frank Jauch (www.kranseil.engineering) and “rope expert” Dipl.-Ing. Roland Verreet (www.ropetechnology.com) will provide valuable insights into their specialist areas. The speakers have decades of experience in the wire rope industry. Day 1:
- Introduction to the History of Wire Rope
- Basics and Rope ABC
- Manufacture and construction of wire ropes
- Computer-aided wire rope construction (with demonstration)
- Modern wire rope constructions (standard ropes and special ropes)
Day 2:
- Testing of wire ropes
- Rope end connections and assembly
- Installation and maintenance of wire ropes
- Selection of the appropriate rope construction
- Design of the rope drive according to DIN 15 020 and ISO 4308
- Measures to improve rope service life
- New CEN standard for wire ropes
