Bursa Teleferik: Cable inspection on a world record-holder.
An 8.8-kilometer cable car line, an elevation gain of around 1,400 meters, and 45 towers: the Bursa Teleferik in Turkey is no ordinary cable car system. Built by the manufacturer LEITNER, the line connects the major city of Bursa with Mount Uludağ and holds the record for the longest single-cable gondola lift in the world.
ast week, Dr. Martin Wehr’s path led him to precisely that location—with a ROPESYS R58 in tow.
Training on the world’s longest monocable circulating ropeway
For years, the Bursa Teleferik has been a key part of the connection between Bursa and the popular recreation and ski area of Uludağ.
Along the route, which is just under nine kilometers long, numerous cable car towers and significant changes in elevation must be overcome.
Regular rope inspectionis crucial for the safe operation of such a system. During his visit, Dr. Martin Wehr trained the staff at Bursa Teleferik on the use of the ROPESYS R58.
It was not just a matter of operating the rope testing device, but above all of the practical application of magnetic-inductive rope testing directly on the installation.
ROPESYS R58 in practical use
The ROPESYS R58 is designed for the magnetic-inductive testing of wire ropes. The rope testing device detects changes in the rope, thereby revealing damage that cannot be reliably identified through visual inspection alone.
For a system like the Bursa Teleferik, a reliable assessment of the cable condition is crucial. The long route and daily operation place specific demands on technical monitoring.
International deployments of ROPESYS rope testing equipment
The Bursa Teleferik rope inspection is another example of the international application of ROPESYS rope inspection technology.
Whether for cable cars, cranes, or industrial plants, wire ropes are safety-critical components in many sectors and require reliable monitoring.
And the next world record was not long in coming: that same week, Dr. Martin Wehr made his way to the Hambach open-cast mine.
There, the ROPESYS R83 rope testing device was used on the four 75-millimeter-thick hoist ropes of Excavator 293—the largest and heaviest land vehicle in the world.
