It was the first time the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.european-athletics.com\/home\">European Athletics Championships<\/a> were held in Great Britain. While athletes competed for medals and personal bests at <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">Alexander Stadium<\/span>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doppelmayr.com\/en\/reference-projects\/air-rail-link-birmingham-airport\/\">Air-Rail Link at Birmingham Airport<\/a> was also in daily operation.  <\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Fast connection to the airport<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">Air-Rail Link<\/span> connects <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">Birmingham International railway station<\/span> with the <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">airport<\/span>. The system was built by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doppelmayr.com\/en\/reference-projects\/air-rail-link-birmingham-airport\/\">Doppelmayr as a Cable Liner\u00ae automated people move<\/a>r and has been in operation since 2003. <\/p>\n<p>The system transports passengers to the terminal along a 471-meter route in around 90 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 32 km\/h. <\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>The pull cable remains invisible.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What passengers barely notice during the ride is an important part of the system: the vehicles are moved along the route by a traction cable.<\/p>\n<p>This specific haul rope undergoes regular inspections. <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">ROTEC <\/span>carries out the annual rope inspection in Birmingham for our client, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doppelmayr.com\/en\/reference-projects\/air-rail-link-birmingham-airport\/\">Doppelmayr <\/a><span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">Cable Car<\/span>. <\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Magnetic testing with the ROPESYS R58<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ropesys.com\/produkt-kategorie\/magnetische-seilpruefgeraete\/seilpruefgeraete-bis-58-mm\/\">ROPESYS R58 <\/a>is used for the inspection. The technical work behind it, however, remains largely invisible. <\/p>\n<p>This is precisely why regular inspection of the haul rope is important. After all, the cable-hauled <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">automated people mover<\/span> relies on the interaction of many components, and the haul rope plays a central role in this process.  <\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Reliable during ongoing operation<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This infrastructure must function reliably even during a major event like the <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">European Athletics Championships. <\/span>While thousands of visitors flocked to <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">Birmingham <\/span>and used public transport, the <span style=\"color: #c51d23;\">Air-Rail Link <\/span>continued to operate. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ro-tec.net\/en\/inspection-services\/magnetic-rope-testing\/\">rope test<\/a> in Birmingham is a good example of a technical task that takes place in the background but plays an important role in the reliable operation of such a system.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3013\" data-end=\"3419\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>ROTEC \u2013 we make ropes safe.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong><em>In the picture: <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Air-Rail Link from Doppelmayr.
